Overview
About this project
This project comes straight out of my Geomatics Engineering background at the University of Lagos. Flooding is one of the most visible urban risks in Lagos, and much of the analysis behind it lives in one-off desktop GIS projects.
The mapper rebuilds that analysis as a scripted, repeatable pipeline: derive slope, flow accumulation and distance-to-drainage from a digital elevation model, combine them with land-cover and rainfall layers, and produce a weighted susceptibility surface. Because every step is code, the map can be regenerated whenever a layer improves.
The next phase compares the rule-based surface with a supervised model trained on historically reported flood locations, and publishes the results as web map tiles.

Gathering ground-truth flood points
Collecting reported flood locations to validate the surface and train a comparison model.
Milestone
Sep 11, 2026
First weighted susceptibility surface
Combined terrain, land-cover and rainfall layers into a first susceptibility map for review.
Milestone

Terrain derivatives scripted
Slope, flow accumulation and distance-to-drainage are now generated from the DEM in one command.
